The Crusades were a series of eight (or possibly nine) holy wars that were fought by Latin Christians in Europe mainly against the Muslims, but also against other Christian groups and non-Christians. The goal was to regain territory in the holy land from the Muslims. European knights and other Christians participated in the Crusades to absolve themselves of their sins.
